Cutting with Scissors
Cutting with scissors is an exciting skill that takes a lot of practice! When practicing scissors skills, there are a lot of ways to have fun and get creative. No matter what your child is working on, make sure they use proper cutting technique for safety.
Proper cutting technique:
-
Hand holding the scissors is in a "thumbs up" position
-
Other hand is holding the paper
-
The hand holding the paper moves the paper, scissors stay pointing forward away from the child (this is for safety)
You can make cutting more fun by cutting things that aren't just paper. Other materials can make cutting easier or harder depending on your child. Some fun materials to think about:
-
Clay and play doh
-
Cardstock, construction paper, paper plates
-
Fabrics like felt
